HELP Launches Konbit Media

The Haitian Education and Leadership Program is proud to announce Konbit Media, founded by HELP graduates, as a professional media production house. With collaborative leadership from esteemed documentarian Jonathan Stack, HELP Haiti Development and Communications Manager Daphnée Charles, and Konbit Media Producer Isaac Pierre, Konbit specializes in short-form videos that tell the triumphant story of HELP and young Haitian leaders like Josué Celiscar (see below), throughout the country. Eager to collaborate widely, Konbit also produces media for NGOs, artists, and other organizations working in Haiti. As a for-hire production house, Konbit Media represents HELP’s very first social enterprise undertaking.

The spirit of collaboration, creativity, and togetherness that underpins Konbit’s work derives from the name itself. “Konbit” in Haitian Creole is defined as collective work whose objective is to achieve a shared goal in the face of adversity. It originated as an agricultural term; when a farmer’s land became too extensive and difficult for one person to reap and sow, they would join with neighboring farmers to create a “Konbit” and farm the land together. In the Konbit spirit, each participant contributes to a collective masterpiece of togetherness, cultivating not just the land but also the shared stories and the bonds that sustain their community.

We invite you to join the Konbit movement. If you are a storyteller, media outlet, foundation, individual—or even a filmmaker with some extra equipment—we welcome you to endeavor with us to rebuild Haiti by telling the stories of its heroic everyday people.
