Edwine Estinfil
Education ‘21
Edwine Estinfil is passionate about teaching. During high school, she volunteered at a free community school for low-income students and children living on the streets. After finishing her own classes in the morning, Edwine taught at the community school every afternoon. She realized that making students feel safe and nurtured was just as important as teaching them reading and math.
Naturally, Edwine is now majoring in education at Quisqueya University in Haiti, and she hopes to pursue a career in teaching or school administration. But her dream is to have an even bigger impact. Edwine hopes to work at the Ministry of Education, implementing policies that increase literacy and provide free universal education across Haiti to help disadvantaged children like the ones she taught at the community school.
At HELP, Edwine is most grateful for the dorms. In addition to providing a safe place to stay close to campus, Edwine says the student housing has enabled her to form strong relationships with her peers. These friendships, combined with support from the advisors and alumni, make Edwine feel she is part of a true community invested in her future. She is excited to graduate and start making a difference in education in Haiti.
Without the support of our community of individual and institutional donors, HELP cannot run, let alone thrive. Your contribution empowers poor but promising Haitian youth to not only rise out of poverty, but take a leadership role in shaping their nation’s future.
