HELP’s Impact Across Haiti: SOIL

Though insecurity and uncertainty have marked the experience of learning and living in Port-au-Prince over the past several years, they do not represent life everywhere in Haiti. Throughout the country, from mangrove marshes and social businesses on Haiti’s northern coast to NGOs in the south, HELP graduates have undertaken unique, inspiring projects with organizations that, like HELP, are continuing the quiet and persistent work of social progress. We invite you to hear from our alumni at SOIL about their pursuits and how HELP has positioned them for success.

SOIL (Sustainable Organic Integrated Livelihoods) Employs Four HELP Graduates!

For almost 20 years, SOIL has been providing sustainable sanitation in Haiti. In 2015, SOIL hired their first HELP intern and today they employ four HELP graduates working in sales, management, systems, and supervisory roles. Keurlit Charles (industrial engineering '19), SOIL's EkoLakay Manager, says the tools, skills, and values he learned at HELP "helped me stand out from others and manage my team more effectively.  Also, with the salary received from SOIL, I support higher education in Haiti through HELP's KOREM [alumni giving] program." Keurlit started at SOIL as an intern and has already been promoted twice since he was hired as a full-time employee.
