Mission and Approach

HELP’s mission is to create, through merit and needs-based scholarships, a community of young professionals and leaders who will promote a more just society in Haiti.

We envision a Haiti where every Haitian has access to quality education, the opportunity to live up to his or her potential, and the ability to contribute to a just and prosperous society.

For decades, brain drain has left Haiti starved for the leadership it needs to address its many social, political, and environmental problems. HELP believes the best way to fight brain drain and build a brighter future for Haiti is through elevating the people who understand those issues best: its citizens.

HELP’s educational empowerment program offers poor but bright young Haitians full university scholarships in Haiti, as well as a robust curriculum of English, IT, and Citizenship & Leadership. The program launches students on a trajectory of service to Haiti that begins the day they start at HELP, and continues as they pursue careers that position them to contribute to their communities.

To build a movement for progress in Haiti, HELP supports students in three areas:

  • Educational

HELP provides students with full tuition to internationally recognized Haitian universities, stipends, dormitory housing, a computer lab, internet connection, and a library. In addition to their undergraduate degree, HELP students take English and IT courses taught by HELP faculty. Through field trips and lectures, HELP exposes students to new ideas and experiences that shape them as leaders.

  • Civic

HELP’s Citizenship & Leadership curriculum instills students with the values of respect, rigor, courage, sacrifice and service, and a deep sense of commitment working for progress in their communities and across Haiti.

  • Vocational & Professional

HELP’s Career Services program, trains students on professional expectations and job search strategies. HELP uses its connections with scores of local employers to connect students with internships and graduates with full-time employment, empowering them to rise out of poverty and positioning them to be leaders in their community.
