Citizen & Leadership Program Impact Report

Highlights from 2017 Citizenship & Leadership AssessmentI4DI’s findings were extremely positive, reinforcing our belief that the work of our supporters, staff and students is producing exactly the kind of results we envisioned when we started the C&L program.I4DI found that HELP’s C&L program was “fully aligned with the mission of HELP” and “very effective. [The program] has led to a real transformation in students to become active citizens committed to change within themselves, their community, and their country.” Other findings include:

• “The program is having a remarkably positive impact on students and their communities…Students unanimously reported a deep commitment to HELP’s values and to the principles of self-reliance and service…Students’ engagement in their communities was one of the program’s multiplier effects…witnessed by the incredible array of service and independent initiatives created by the students…A minimum of 2,400 direct beneficiaries received services from students.”
• Partners indicated “a marked improvement in student performance” as a result of HELP students tutoring.
• “Program staff are deeply committed to the mission of their work and dedicated to offering quality instruction and services to the students.”
• “The program is particularly efficient and has maximized use of resources.”
• “Students view the program as particularly relevant and highly enriching.”
  • 93% reported having a greater appreciation for respectful relationships with others.
  • 84% reported definitely being better able to communicate.
  • 76% reported a definite increase in self-confidence.
  • 67% reported definitely being better prepared to be leaders.
• The percentage of participants who reported no involvement in their community dropped from 19% prior to participation to 1.6% after participation. The percentage who said they were “very involved” in their community rose almost six fold, from 10% to 58%.
• The assessment concluded that “the program represents a particularly relevant, and unique process of leadership development…The literature review confirmed [the] understanding that the program offers a range and length of services that is unique in the world.”
