Alumni Spotlight: Marconi Sanon (computer science ‘21)

Shortly before his graduation, Marconi Sanon (computer science ‘21) wrote a reflection on his time at HELP. “When I finished high school, I didn’t have enough support to go to the State University so I was out of options. Now, in 2021, I am completing my HELP scholarship and graduating with a bachelor's degree in computer science. A lot has changed in the last four years; from the time I applied to HELP to now, one can see a giant evolution on a personal and professional level. I am entering a new stage in life with a new career ahead!”

“Being at HELP was a great opportunity. I received a whole package of knowledge which allowed me to improve myself, develop a curious and critical mind, and advance my quest for learning; none of this was available to me before HELP.”
— Marconi Sanon

"HELP and the whole community instilled a confidence in me, allowing me to excel in my studies and take risks to try new things. I’ve learned to assert myself, develop my talents, and chase away shyness to express myself. HELP has encouraged me to get involved and assume my responsibilities as a citizen and given me the tools to succeed (how to set objectives, organize the work, and plan my days to achieve the goals).

Marconi poses for his graduation

“I would like to thank all the HELP staff and donors who have supported me throughout the last four years; I am very grateful.  HELP has given me the opportunity to achieve my goals and join a network of professionals.  I want to thank them for the sense of leadership they have instilled in me; I am deeply grateful for this opportunity. I will keep working and keep developing new skills so I can achieve new goals and get more involved in living HELP’s mission.  I encourage you to keep that same motivation to help others.”

Marconi is currently interning at Concern Worldwide’s office in Port-au-Prince!
