Yvelise grew up in Saint Marc with her parents, sister, and six brothers. Her father is a farmer and her mother sells produce.
Today, Yvelise feels confident that HELP is the right place for her. “HELP prepares students in many ways: culturally, socially, and intellectually,” she says. “There are a lot of people who believe in me, and I don’t want to let them down.” She enjoys HELP’s leadership, and ESL classes, and really likes living in the dorms. “We all live together like a family,” she says, “which makes it easier for me to adjust to life away from home.”
Influenced by her parents’ and neighbors’ love for the land where she grew up, Yvelise has chosen to study agronomy. “To develop the country,” she says, “we need professionals who can help bring agriculture to another level in Haiti.”
